#208 - NEW GENERATION OF SMART WEARABLES (UK)
Discover the exciting world of...keyboard_arrow_down
...smart textiles! Integration of microelectronics into garments is no longer just a concept, but a reality that is helping elite athletes, astronauts, and even film animators. As market analysts and technologists predict, a closer collaboration between electronics and the clothing industry is foreseen soon. Rethinking many aspects of product design, material selection, cleaning / washability, and sustainability are becoming increasingly important.
Christian Dalsgaard is a renowned expert in this field, having worked in the industry for over two decades, including development for the European Space Agency. He currently works at the center for advanced printed electronics at Danish Technological Institute and chairs the Smart Textile Alliance, a London-based non-profit organization that is leading the way in standardizing e-textiles.
By attending Christian's presentation at EOT, you'll gain valuable insights into the market landscape for smart wearables, learn about feasible techniques for integrating electronics into clothing, and see inspiring examples of successful products that have overcome initial challenges in this space. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore the future of smart textiles!

#205 - OUTLOOK FOR THE SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY IN 2023 & BEYOND (UK)
The global semiconductor industry...keyboard_arrow_down
...experienced a remarkable 26.6 percent growth in 2021, setting high expectations for the future. However, the industry's growth slowed down to a mere 3.2 percent in 2022, and now faces a daunting 22 percent decline in 2023.
This feast-to-famine scenario raises important questions: What caused such a drastic change? Can the industry maintain its impressive technology advancement, including Moore's Law? Is the trillion-dollar industry just a pipe dream?
This presentation dives deep into the root causes of these cycles and provides actionable steps to ensure the industry's long-term success.

#201 - MANAGING BUSINESS RISK WHILE RE-USING OPEN SOURCE (UK)
Most modern software projects...keyboard_arrow_down
...rely very heavily on open-source software. Including open-source software components during software development improves developer productivity, while delivering more feature content in a shorter time span. However, this reliance comes with downsides. Many open source components have an array of openly documented flaws and exploits that can easily looked up in publicly available databases such as the National Vulnerability Database. This gives bad actors a list of things to try to subvert your application or system. Some of these components were added by your team to implement anything from cryptology and communication to databases. Some of these are through transitive dependencies in application binaries and libraries that you rely on such as graphics libraries or graphics toolboxes. This problem compounds due to their probable live deployment and thus immediate potential to cause harm.
Software Bills of Materials (SBOM) are lists of components that document open-source re-use and are a great tool to firstly document and then manage the open-source risk. More and more international regulation is being drafted to mandate their use. This presentation will look into where in the process SBOMs can be used and how to quickly reduce outstanding risk.

#210 - INTRODUCING A NEW TRANSDUCTION MECHANISM, PIEZO-MEMS uSPEAKERS (UK)
...For decades, the development ofkeyboard_arrow_down
...MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) speakers has trailed behind MEMS microphones due to fundamental design related and acoustical challenges.
While MEMS microphones need to convert minuscule diaphragm displacements to generate electrical signals, the reverse - i.e. generating sound energy from electrical signals requires both motor force and far higher volume velocity of the transducer mechanism. However, recent developments have solved these challenges using a new transduction mechanism that utilizes piezoelectric materials that are fully integrated with the MEMS structure at wafer-level. The resulting structures offer unique advantages over traditional coil-based systems for a range of applications. The Piezo-based MEMS devices are inherently IP58 rated while delivering 20Hz to 20kHz bandwidth using standard semiconductor SMT packages as miniature speaker cabinets. The fast mechanical transient response of the voltage based capacitive system results in improved impulse response and consistently low phase over the entire audio bandwidth. In turn, this provides more durable and reliable speakers as well as better sound quality for consumers. Target applications include pro-audio IEMs, Hearing Aids, and new product inventions such as VR/AR glasses. In addition, due to the uniformity of the MEMS fabrication process, arrays of Piezo MEMS Speakers can be used in free-air application such as tweeters, desktop speakers and sound bars. The presentation will cover, theory of operation, design, fabrication, packaging, reliability and testing.

#207 - OPLEV I MORGEN I DAG: TIDENS STØRSTE TECH TRENDS (DK)
